The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), strongly frowns at the dastard act by security operatives. In as much as we don't support cultic activities, robbery and other social vices, we also do not support extrajudicial killings of our students.
For the benefit of those without the knowledge of what transpired, I will run them down in 7 sentences.1. That the said student was unfortunate to be passing a robbery scene at night.
2. That he was stopped to be interrogated.
3. That he tried to run away before the trigger-happy security operative rained bullet on his back.
4. After this, his body was deposited in the mortuary by a vigilante man called carpenter.
5. The vigilante man said he was shot by his (the deceased) friend.
6. Some witnesses said it was UNN security that shot him dead not vigilante.
7. The UNN CSO called and said that it was SARS that shot him not operatives from his department.
Now our findings:
1. The student might be innocent and was killed out of carelessness since he wasn't caught red handed.
2. That the student was shot by either the UNN security operatives or vigilante.
Posers:
1. What gave the killers the prerogative to kill an unarmed student even when it was not confirmed he truly stole.
2. Even if he stole, does it warrant his life to be taken?
3. Even if they want to shoot him, why didnt they shoot him on the leg so that he can defend himself in a competent court of jurisdiction?
4. What has the school management done to investigate the matter?
Our Position:
1. The School management must produce the killer(s) since the CSO knows them.
2. We are passing a vote of no confidence on the office of the Dean of students affairs and the CSO.
3. A management team of UNN must go and pay a condolence visit to the family of the deceased for their complacency on this issue.
4. If it is proven that he was killed by the vigilante, then Enugu state government should wait to hear from us.
On this note, we are engaging on a peaceful procession to mourn one of our own tomorrow in UNN.
We are calling on all comrades within and outside UNN to join us.
An injury to one is an injury all.
