UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA NSUKKA VS STUDENTS BVN SAGA FOR NEXT SESSION .....NANS NATIONAL VP REACTS

sirwels blogsirwels blog
National association of Nigeria students(NANS) is not finding it funny why University Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) will mandate students to submit their BVN to the school being that the school is not a financial institution reacting to this , the NANS National Vice president  .Ilogebe Chidi  threw it open for discussion on his Facebook wall to get the reactions of the students involved.
"""It came to my knowledge yesterday that the BVN of every fresh student in UNN will be required for their registration. NANS needs to take a position and make a statement because we know the university is not a financial institution and as such does not have the mandate to request such data from any student.
Thus, we need more insight from the public to know the merits and demerits of this development to further direct us.
Thank you for your anticipated opinion.

Also unconfirmed reports from the students also suggest that the Vice chancellor of the school with the ACCESS BANK  management is trying to make student use only the bank for school transactions and other forms of payments in the school
below are screenshots of the conversation
Furthermore, the SUG wing of the  nsukka campus have since released  a memo to this effect below

As it remains the very duty of the Students Union Government to make sure that the Nigerian students gets the best in regards to anything that apparently concerns them. We took the bold steps to meet the masters in the field of Banking, in respect to school requesting for students to submit their BVN.
In a press conference held today with the Manager of Access Bank Plc. UNN branch Mr. Osondu, Kingsley. He explained vividly concerning the school requesting for students to submit their BVN, he said that the BVN will be used by Access Bank to produce identity cards for students, which will also serve as a Prepaid Card, which he called the *Students wallet card.*
He further stated that Access Bank produced Identity cards for students in the year 2015, but BVN was not in existence then. They wish to do same now as a CSR project that will be continual, which was attracted by the Access Bank Group managing Director who is an Alumnus of UNN, Mr. Hebert Wigwe.
He also said that BVN is just a means of absorbing identity as it is also requested by *NYSC, NIMS, and other Institutions.* He also emphasized that no person or institution can ever scam you by having access to your *BVN or your account number.* He said that students should not give out or disclose their *ATM card numbers, mobile transfer pins, and ATM pins*, that these are always Confidential.
He Stressed that the BVN submission is not only for students alone, as it includes *Staffs, Alumni and Salesperson's in school.*
He said that the students will enjoy its benefits in the long run, and ought to welcome the So stretch development. *And for the benefit of doubt, students should visit any Access Bank nationwide, or other Commercial banks to be clarified.*
The ICT Rep also assured that the students will bear no financial or risk implications.
The Sug information officer on behalf on Roar Newsonline thanked them for granting him a succinct audience, and also *pleaded that they should not embark on any projects that will mar the Nigerian students. As he hopes that the project means well to the Nigerian students.*

I don't see the much trouble in this. The world is becoming digital and storing data is a big project. It has high benefits and demerits only when in bad hands. My opinion is that the project should be applauded, and thank the SUG/NANS for standing up to their responsibilities.
The school should have enlightenment the students in a newsletter or through the SUG information officer in the consultation room.
I believe that this is a welcomed development and implore the students to also do same.
