The victim of the robbery last Friday night, 26th October, "a 2nd year BAF student" was walking *alone* along the path of UNEC main hall/round about to his lodge. He was on his way around chapel of redemption, when 4 guys armed with knives approached him and forcefully led him down towards the dark and lonely primary school road. There, they hit him severally and collected his phone and all the money on him.
They then requested for his ATM card, which he was reluctant to let up, that was when he refused to obey any more of their commands. He was beaten up and then stabbed with a knife by the robbers three times. Twice to his arm and once to the forearm.
He had to then pick himself up from the ground and run towards the campus gate while bleeding profusely from the deep cuts. When he reached the campus gate, he reported what had happened to the security men on duty and the security responded by taking him to the Medical centre while some men went in search of the robbers but to no avail.
Medical center, using their ambulance services transferred him to Parklane teaching hospital at around 9:30pm and that was where the SUG Director of Welfare took over from the Medical centre. At the moment he has returned back to his lodge and is quite on bed rest. Everything looks fine and he would have a swift recovery.
Please all students (both returning and Freshers) should be security conscious.
1. Do not walk alone once it's 6pm.
2. Avoid withdrawals or even carrying your ATM cards around once it's 7pm.
3. Be careful with your gadgets, you can get robbed even in the hostel rooms.
4. Avoid charging your gadgets close to the windows when you are in the hostel.
5. Remember to walk around with a torch light once it's dark at night.
6. Don't stay out late into the night at dark corners, hoodlums might be around the corner.
7. Always have the phone numbers of the Director of Welfare 07036028182, SUG President 07066135045 and the Security hotline number 0703 348 6939 handy at all point in time.
*8. Obtain and always carry your student ID card with you at all times*
9. Be vigilant and be your brother's keeper.
10. Going for night class should be done as a group and not an individual.
